There’s been a huge response to our benefit auction from the generous members of the children’s and YA book community. In just two days, dozens of authors and illustrators have contributed thousands of dollars worth of signed books, virtual author visits, critiquing services, artwork, and even a few opportunities to name a character in an upcoming book!
Through the auction process over the next couple weeks, we are hoping to turn these donated items into much-needed funds for our selected charity, the UNICEF U.S. Fund. They are targeting relief efforts specifically to the needs of children in the affected area of Japan, using methods refined during decades of disaster response campaigns around the world. Bidders outside the United States may choose to donate to an alternate aid organization based in their own country instead.
To handle the larger than expected number of items up for bid, we’ve come up with a schedule that staggers the start and stop times and keeps each auction open for 3 to 5 days.
Each weekday morning at 8AM EDT, starting on Monday, March 21st, we’ll post a preview of that day’s upcoming items. Bidding on the first auction item will start at 9AM EDT, with a new item added every hour until 4PM EDT. Auctions that begin on Monday or Tuesday will end on Thursday or Friday. Auctions that begin on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday of one week will end on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday of the next week. There won’t be any new auctions started over the weekend, but the bidding will continue.
Please help us get the word out that the auction is starting this upcoming Monday. If the bidders are as generous as our item donors have been, the event is sure to be a huge success. Thanks to everyone who is helping to make this happen!
